About Me.
My goal as a therapist is to work collaboratively with clients to help them find their way through life’s challenges.
I am a person with diverse experiences and background. I have lived in the Lansing area most of my life. I love spending time outdoors and will probably tell you about my latest adventure up north.
I have an art degree and previously had a teaching certification in English and history and this background included delving into theory and philosophy that informs my perspective on life. I have had an interest in yoga and Buddhism for decades as well and bring that perspective to my therapeutic perspective of DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), ACT, (Acceptance and commitment therapy) MBSR (mindfulness based stress reduction), and self compassion based therapy.
I strive to encourage the client as the expert on their own life. As an EMDR trained therapist and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, I draw from a trauma-informed, eclectic, strengths-based, approach that might also include elements of EMDR (EYE Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed mindfulness and yoga/ Y12sr, Polyvagal Theory (PVT), sand-play and expressive arts therapy, based on the latest research to assist clients in finding the result they desire. Please see my blog post for more information regarding EMDR.

Harm Reduction approach to substance use
What is harm reduction approach? All behavior that attempts to solve a problem, must be replaced with an answer that really addresses the problem. The answer may be different for each person and should be rooted in self-compassion for what the person has experienced. For some that is total abstinence, but not always for everyone.
person centered focus to treatment
You are the best authority of your experience. My hope is to guide you to solutions that meet your goals.
FAQ
Can you bill my insurance?
Yes, please contact me to verify which insurances are accepted. Please verify your deductible or co-pays with your provider directly. It is your responsibility to know what cost you will be responsible for.
What should I expect from therapy?
On your first visit your therapist will ask about your history and what brought you to therapy. The therapist will then create a treatment plan based on information you provide about what you would like to change. It may take a few meetings to feel comfortable with your therapist and you always have the right to try a different therapist. Your therapist will help you determine how often you can commit to meeting and can guide you to additional resources to support your growth. Progress should be discussed throughout your sessions. Your therapist needs to hear from you if anything is not helping.
How will I know when I am done with therapy
Progress should be discussed ongoing. Ideally, a decision to end therapy should be done when progress is made and no new goals have been identified. In the event that therapy needs to end suddenly, it is ideal to have a final session to review progress made so far.
