Prioritizing rest

Did you get some time to soak up the summertime? If it’s not your favorite season, did you find ways to stay cool? Did you hope for a trip to the beach or to have a barbecue? See some flower displays? Sit and read a book? If fall is your favorite, are you making time for apple orchards or pumpkin displays? Apple cider?

Sometimes, time gets away from us, but if you are able, prioritize those late summer and fall plans!

I am off to see some of my favorite places in Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, and I am so grateful that I planned to ensure that I get a longer trip. For those who know me personally, I have been prioritizing shorter trips all summer. I feel privileged that I am at a point where I can do this. I also got out of my comfort zone and found I can drive all over up north, just not Detroit! I also don’t enjoy the Macinac Bridge, but I survive!

If you are unable to take a lot of time off, I hope you can carve out even a couple of hours to go drive to a sunflower patch, to go to a farmers market, or a pumpkin patch. To look at late summer flowers or read a book if you prefer. There are also many late summer and fall festivals.

Traveling even a half hour out of your normal range is so good for the brain. If your nervous system has difficulty with change, maybe try somewhere closer, with a support person or fur buddy.

Rest is necessary in whatever form you prefer, so hopefully you can spend some time outside as the weather cools down and enjoy the beautiful weather!
